ZESCO — 33kV Transformer Installations at Meanwood & Twin Palms

Project Overview

This portfolio involves the installation of three 33 kVA ZESCO transformers in the Meanwood area to improve the reliability and capacity of the local power distribution network. The work is intended to support the growing residential and commercial electricity demand while ensuring stable and consistent power supply in accordance with ZESCO’s technical standards and safety requirements.

The portfolio includes conducting site assessments to determine the most suitable locations for the transformers, followed by clearing and preparing the designated installation areas. All preparatory work is carried out in compliance with ZESCO regulations and local authority guidelines to ensure proper infrastructure placement and long-term operational reliability.

The three transformers are transported to the Meanwood site and positioned using appropriate lifting equipment. Once installed, electrical works are carried out to connect the transformers to the distribution network. This includes the installation of high-voltage and low-voltage cabling, switchgear, isolators, cut-outs, and surge protection equipment. Proper earthing and lightning protection systems are also implemented to ensure the safety and stability of the electrical infrastructure.

After installation, comprehensive testing is performed to confirm that the system is functioning correctly. This includes insulation testing, continuity checks, and load testing to verify that the transformers operate efficiently and safely under ZESCO standards. Once all tests are successfully completed, the system is commissioned and handed over to the client.

Throughout the portfolio, strict safety and compliance procedures are followed. Safety signage, barricading, and appropriate personal protective equipment are used on-site to ensure the safety of personnel and the surrounding environment during the installation process.
